The City of Sebastian invited high school students from Sebastian River High School to participate in the Centennial Essay Contest — “What Makes Sebastian Special?”
Students were invited to write an essay telling readers, their opinion on what
makes Sebastian special.
Sebastian, Florida grew into a small fishing village in the 1870’s and was first named St. Sebastian. Eventually, the “St” was dropped from the name and Sebastian was incorporated as a city in 1923.
Sebastian is the largest city in Indian River County, followed by its neighboring city Vero Beach. Sebastian is widely known for its beaches, fishing, and inlet. The most desirable aspect of Sebastian is their beaches which consists of, but is not limited to, Golden Sands Park, Seagrape Trail, Sebastian Inlet State Park, Treasure Shores, Turtle Trail, and Wabasso Beach Park. The Sebastian Inlet is not only home to a one-of-a-kind beach, but also holds a home for fishing, and allows for a park-like aspect.
Sebastian is home to some amazing attractions which include, but are not limited to, the Indian River Lagoon, Riverview Park, Captain Hiram’s Resort, and the North County Pool. The Indian River Lagoon is a desirable location for families to go out and swim with the wild but friendly dolphins, and manatees. Riverview Park is a nicely located attraction towards the coast of Florida which is home to a plethora of friendly, and hungry squirrels where families can visit to feed them. Captain Hiram’s Resort allows for wonderful venues which include weddings, and birthday parties but also allows for amazing vacation stays, with a riverfront view, and one-of-a-kind dining.
Sebastian offers desirable Floridian based views, whether it’s a one-of-a-kind beach view, the view from the large Wabasso Bridge, or even an ocean view from your resort or front porch. These views allow for amazing opportunities for photographers to capture life-like photos to review and enjoy on a daily basis. If you have a hobby for photography, or just enjoy taking photos in general, Sebastian is the perfect opportunity.
Sebastian is also known for hosting the most desirable festivals year-round which include, but is not limited to, the yearly fire-fighters fair, corn maze, crab-leg festival, and the boo-bash. These one-of-a-kind festivals allow for family bonding, date nights, or even just hanging out with friends.
Sebastian is such a unique city to visit, if not live, where people with all sorts of hobbies, and interests can come together to have an amazing time. Whether you decide to visit our one-of-a-kind beaches, our wonderful squirrel-filled parks, or even our dolphin and manatee infested lagoon where families and friends can all have fun simultaneously.
